Frequently Asked Questions
What to Expect from Counselling
We'll begin with a short conversation to help us decide if working together feels like the right fit. If so, we'll book an initial session and discuss plans for future sessions as we go.
During sessions, you'll be encouraged to talk about your thoughts, emotions, and challenges in a judgment-free, supportive space. My role is to listen, support, and help you gain insight into your feelings, thought patterns, and needs. Together, we'll find strategies that help you move forward.
You have two options for sessions:
- Virtual sessions (most popular). Virtual sessions are convenient and accessible from the comfort of your home. See the questions below about online therapy for more information.
- In-person sessions. Our counselling space for in-person sessions is located in the Gilpin Psychological Services building at 8644 Glendon Drive, Mount Brydges—just a short 15-minute drive from London, Ontario.
The number of sessions varies from person to person. Even a few sessions can be very beneficial and transformative. We’ll work together to determine what best supports your goals, schedule, and other responsibilities.
Sessions are currently available on:
- Mondays and Fridays (daytime).
- Monday evenings (limited availability).
- Occasionally, alternative days/times may be available at the therapist’s discretion.
Each 50-minute session is $150. Fees are periodically adjusted at the discretion of the therapist with adequate official written notice.
Payment is made via e-transfer and is due at the time of the session.
48 hours’ notice is required for cancellations. If you cancel with less than 48 hours’ notice or do not attend your session, the full session fee will be charged.
In exceptional circumstances, a reduced fee may be considered at the therapist’s discretion.
Many workplace extended health benefits plans cover mental health counselling provided by a Registered Social Worker (RSW). Please check your plan for details.
After each payment you’ll receive a detailed receipt that you can submit to your insurance provider for reimbursement.
Mental health challenges are real and need to be taken seriously. If you need immediate support or are feeling suicidal, please don’t try to manage this alone. Help is available right now in the following ways:
- Call or text 988 for the Suicide Crisis Helpline. Support is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
- Call 211 to find your nearest local mental health crisis centre. In many cases you will be able to receive an immediate response via call, text, or web chat.
- Call 911 or go to your nearest Emergency Department.
Online Therapy
Research shows that online therapy is just as effective as in-person therapy, and for many people it’s even preferable. Benefits of online therapy include:
- Convenience and comfort. Attend sessions from home or another private space.
- No commute. Save time, gas, and parking worries.
- Flexibility. Ideal for those with busy schedules.
- Social anxiety-friendly. A great alternative for those who feel overwhelmed in public settings.
- Location independence. Access your therapist from anywhere as long as you are an Ontario resident (I am licensed in Ontario).
Yes! Sessions are conducted using Personal Health Information Protection Act (PHIPA)-compliant software to ensure privacy and confidentiality.
For added privacy, consider:
- Choosing a quiet, private space (some clients have sessions in their car or backyard).
- Wearing headphones to prevent others from overhearing.
You’ll need:
- A stable internet connection.
- A laptop, phone, or tablet.
- A private space.
Here’s how it works:
- 1. Your therapist will schedule your session as an online appointment.
- 2. You’ll receive an email with a secure link.
- 3. Click the link and follow the prompts to join the session—it’s easy!
- 4. Once the session starts, you can turn on your video (optional), and you’ll see your therapist on screen.
Yes! Many people worry that online therapy won’t feel as personal as in-person sessions. However, therapists are trained to create a warm, supportive, and connected experience online.
Most clients quickly forget they’re on a virtual platform as they settle into the session. Over time, the connection feels just as natural as meeting in person.
